God is Always Up to Something.

This past Sunday morning I attended one of the Life Churches in the Oklahoma City area.The music was wonderful, and so was the sermon. The pastor said something that really hit home for me. "Just because I see nothing, doesn't mean my God isn't doing something."

All of us have been in situations in which we are unable to see past the end of our noses. That could mean one of two things. A. We are ignoring the situation, or B. God isn't ready for us to see what He has in store for us. God has created a master plan just for you; just for me. He knows our every footstep, and is willing to take us every step of the way. Sometimes this means, we may have to walk blindly, and just let Him be our guide.

Another thing the pastor said that stood out to me was: "God hears our prayer the first time, every time." He was speaking out of Daniel Chapter 10. (Which I strongly encourage you to check out. ) In verse 12, the man in the vision Daniel has seen says this: "Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them." Daniel prayed consistently for a long time, with no reply, and seeing no change whatsoever. Just because God doesn't answer our prayer right away doesn't mean He hasn't heard us. He hears every prayer we have ever prayed. Psalm 116:1-2 says: "I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live." He is always listening, always waiting, and always wanting us to cry out to Him in our time of uncertainty, celebration, sadness, and times of happiness. 

Now, I know it may seem that I have started to entirely different blogs, and put it into one post. There is a method to my madness though, I promise. Most times, when we are unsure of our next step, or have been struggling with a certain relationship or situation.. we pray. Am I right? So, to tie these to things together I'm going to make this little quote: "Just because I see nothing, doesn't mean my God isn't doing something. And just because I pray with no answer in return, doesn't mean He hasn't heard my cry." 

Maybe you're unsure on where you are headed in the future. It may have to do with a particular relationship or a decision on what God wants you to do in your life. Maybe you have been praying a really long time for you or someone in your family who is ill, Maybe you or someone you know is struggling in their marriage. Whatever the circumstance, do not be discouraged, God heard your prayer the first time you reached out to Him, and He will never forget. As hard as it can be keep praying when it seems "useless,"  keep trusting and keep reaching out to Father because whether you realize it or not, He is reaching down to you.

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for this day, and this time we are able to reflect on you and your mercy. God, sometimes it's so hard to trust in you when we have no idea where we are going. Help us to remember that you know exactly what you are doing. Help us to be persistent in our prayer ad thanksgiving. Thank you for always listening, and always reaching down to us. I pray that we would reach up to you in not only times we are unsure, but times we are rejoicing. And let us remember that you are always working in our lives, even when we cannot see it.

We Love You Lord,

You are Called.

God has gifted each and every one of us with something special. Some of us may know what that calling is, and some of us may have no idea. However, what you must realize is that we are called to be a light in this world. Spreading Jesus love, is our primary purpose as Christians.

I am called to music ministry. I remember I was at church camp, I remember the verse, I remember the chill and emotion that came over me. It was a moment I will never forget. Some of us will have experiences like mine. Others, will just have a knack for a certain thing, and find out later how to use that particular skill for God's glory. I know a lot of people think they have to have that overwhelming spiritual moment with God to know that they have been called. But that is not the case at all. 1 Peter 2:9-12 happens to be the verse the speaker was talking about the night I was called into music ministry. It states" But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are a people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Dear friends, I urge you as aliens and strangers of this world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us."

We as the people of Christ, are called to be different. We are called of the darkness into His wonderful light. We are called to stand out so that the non-believers might notice something different about us. That they may see Christ in us. 

Many people think that a "call to ministry" has to be vocational (pastor, youth minister, music minister, missionary.. etc.) It is true, that a lot of people get called specifically to that area, but you must realize God has gifted you with certain abilities that will help you in your life's ministry. That may be a teacher, coach, doctor, or hairdresser that shows God's loving kindness in their everyday jobs. 

One of my all time favorite verses is in 1 Corinthians Chapter 12, verses 4-6. It says this "There are different kind of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men." Therefore, use your spiritual gifts. They may be obvious, such as my gift of music, or maybe it's not as easy to see. Maybe you are a great listener, or great leader. Maybe you're that person people talk to about their problems, and person they always know they can trust. If you are that person, don't let yourself believe you don't have anything to offer. You are special, and God has gifted you in ways you may not be aware of.

If you haven't found your spiritual gifts yet, don't be discouraged. You have them. You possess unique qualities and a personality no one on Earth has. God thinks you are special, and He created you to be a minister for Him. Whether that means being a pastor, or being a friend. Your life IS your ministry. Do you hear God calling you?

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for all you do for us. Thank you for this life you have given us. Thank you for the Spiritual gifts you have given us, whether we have realized what those are or not. Help us to pursue those abilities. And to recognize that our lives and how we live is our ministry. We love you Lord.

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made in God's Image.

Today in my bible study it talked about being created in God's image. As I began thinking about this I also began thinking about how intricately and thoughtfully made we are.

We are not "just" human beings made up of cells. Each part of our body has a function and purpose. We have thousands of thoughts that run through our mind each and everyday. We have hundreds of feelings and emotions. We have beliefs and talents. We are each created to be different. No two finger prints are alike. How amazing is that? God created us to be different, but He created us ALL in His image.


Now, what exactly does that mean? Genesis 1:27 says this: "So God created man in his own image. in the image of God he created him; male and female he created him." On the sixth day of creation God created man, so that He could have an intimate relationship with us. Let me say that again. God created US, so we could have a relationship with HIM.  My bible  study explained "being created in God's image" in a way I hadn't ever heard before. It described that he word image is a translation of the Hebrew word "tselem" which is from "an unused root meaning to shade." Other translations say it means "an image as that which is a replica or shadow of the original." Give that a quick thought. We are made in God's image. We are to "shadow" him and follow in His footsteps. A shadow is dependent on the object of origin, therefore we are to model Christ in that way.


The passage in my Bible study went on to say that being in a relationship with Christ is much a like an apprenticeship. We are to learn from Him; Watch and mimic how He loves and serves others. He will guide us as we seek Him. We will learn to walk and talk with Jesus, and cherish that relationship. No life circumstance determines our position in Christ. Because we are His and He is ours. Nothing in this life can ever block out the sunshine (Christ), to take away our shadow.


My eyes were completely opened by this passage, and I hope yours were to. Take a moment and realize how wonderfully made you are. Praise God and thank Him for being created differently, yet in the same image.  "I will  praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." ~Pslam 139:14~

Let Us Pray.

Father God,

I thank for this day and everything you have so graciously given us. Thank you for not only creating us, but creating us in your image. So that we would be able to have an intimate relationship with you. Help us to mimic your love and mercy. Help us to walk in your footsteps and your shadow so that we would not go astray. Thank you for your willingness to guide and direct us, help us to follow your lead.

Young or Old, we are Called to Live for Christ.

The other night at cheer camp one of my cheer sponsors was talking about how important being a Christian role model is. She also shared with us a verse from 1 Timothy 4:12 "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity."

I think a lot of the time we think that just because we're young, there's a lot of things we aren't able to do. Which is true to an extent. HOWEVER. This does not give us an excuse to ignore the things Christ has called us to do. What we must understand is we don't have to go thousands of miles away to be a missionary, we are missionaries right where God has planted us. NO matter how old we are this never changes.

We are to be a walking bible and set an example for those around us. This means, the way we talk, our decisions, the way we treat people, and the way we conduct ourselves, EVEN when nobody is watching. This is also known as integrity. We are to live our lives to please Christ. Whether we are home alone, or in front of hundreds of people it makes no difference.

As sons and daughters of God we are to be imitators of Him. Ephesians 5:1 says "Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children." We were created in His image. We must strive to please Him in everything we do. There is always someone watching us, and the common misconception is that we as Christians are perfect. We are not called to be perfect.... for no one is perfect except Christ. It is important to show the world that we mess up, and it's okay to fall, but we must show the world that God is a forgiving God and His perfect love completes. We will fall short. We will fail. It is how we handle those situations that make a difference.

Are you forever trying to please the world? Or are you always striving to please Christ and set an example of His perfect love for others to see? I hope that it is the latter. For I know, that I struggle with this just as much as the person next to me. There are always eyes on us, not only of people, but God is always watching.

Dear God, 

Thank you for this day, and all you have given us. Thank you for always forgiving us for our shortcomings. Help us to be an example no matter where we are and no matter who we are with. Help us to live our lives to please you and no one else.

Put God First and Everything Else will Fall into Place.

Relationships. What does that word mean to you? Whether it's friends, family, a significant other, or (most importantly) God, a relationship to me, means two or more people who give a little and get a little. A relationship, is a two way street. 

There are so many aspects that go into a successful relationship. What we must understand is, if only one person is working at the relationship it is not going to work. I've been on that end of things, and honestly it makes me so tired. Its exhausting working at something that the other person (or persons) doesn't seem to care about. Cooperation and communication is key, when you are building a meaningful relationship.

The same can be said about our relationship with God. God wants an intimate relationship with us. A personal connection that is like no relationship here on Earth. Acts 17:26-27 says: "From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them, and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us." He wants us to seek Him and reach out to Him because He loves us more deeply than anything.

Now. A relationship with God and relationships with people go hand in hand. We may not realize it in the moment, but if our relationship with God isn't right, our other relationships won't work out either. If we put our earthly relations above our God, how do we expect them to prosper? God should be the center of our lives, the center of our relationships, because without Christ those things are meaningless. Proverbs 16:3 states: "Commit to whatever you do, and your plans will succeed." A commitment to the Lord, must come first. When we do that everything else will fall into place.

I know from experience that relationships are one of the hardest things to develop. There are different reasons they go a wry that are circumstantial, such as an argument or misunderstanding, but remember this: God places people in our lives just when we need them, and He takes people out for the same reason. He knows what's best for us. And I know it hurts when you lose a friend or have your heart broken by someone you thought you meant so much to, but these things grow us and help us mature, and bring us closer to the relationships that are made to last a lifetime. So don't lose heart, because God's got it all worked out.

Have you lost a relationship to someone you were close to recently? Does it still hurt you when you think about it? Is your relationship with God in check? It's okay to hurt. Some people are meant to stay in our lives and others aren't, but God is meant to dwell in our hearts FOREVER. Keep in mind that He is control, and that everything is going to be okay.

Let Us Pray. 

Dear Lord,

Thank you for this day God, and the relationship you long to have with us. Thank you for the people you have placed in my life at  exactly the right times, they are so precious to me. Help us to trust you even when our relationships don't work out. For you should be our main focus. Help us to put you first, so that all other things will fall into place. We love you God.

In Your Son's Precious Name,

What do We Have to Complain About?

I don't know about you, but I struggle with complaining. And when I sit and think about it... what do I really have to complain about?

I don't watch the news, as much as I probably should, but last night I was reading some of the news flash blurbs on yahoo. There is seriously, so many horrible things going on in this world. Not only in foreign countries, but in our own country, in our own states, in our own town. My heart broke slightly when I began to think about all the hurt and pain, and hopelessness of the people enduring these things.

Here I am, in bed, in my room, blogging about this, and have nothing to fear. I have the freedom to write whatever I want, and believer whatever I want. And yet, I complain about things. All the time. Like: "Ugh I have to go to band. Ugh I wish my sisters would just leave me alone." Ugh this, ugh that. Last night I got to thinking about how, some people would die for my life, and the freedom I have and the wonderful family I have. I am so BLESSED. Sure sometimes my life doesn't go the way I would like it to, but there is always someone who has it entirely worse.

I also began to ponder the fact that some girls my age around the world, do not have the freedom to choose who they hang out with, who they talk to, who they love, who they marry, etc. How awful would that be, not to have a choice? I am so thankful for the freedom of choice, although sometimes; most times; I take that for granted. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, "Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is Christ's will for you." 

This is something we all need work on. To give thanks always. No matter if we are happy with our life's circumstances or if we're sad. Because someone out there, is wanting the life you have. It's time for us to do something, instead of sitting around and complaining. Live, love, and share Christ with the world.

Do you struggling with complaining on a daily basis? Do you feel convicted about it, as I do? Remember how very fortunate we are to be able to freely worship the Lord our God, whenever and wherever we please. We are able to love who we want, dream as big as we want, and live the way we choose to live. We are so fortunate to have that ability.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for this day and all you have given us. Thank you for the freedom we have, to love you Lord. Help us to appreciate all the things we have, and not always to be wishing and wanting for something more. Because you are truly, more than enough for us. That's the way it should be, but fall short daily. Help us to remember to give thanks to you in all circumstances. I pray for all those who are suffering from things I cannot not even fathom. I pray that someway, somehow, they could come to know you God. That you would show them your love, so that they might have hope for tomorrow. We love you.

If We Are the Body...

Have you ever felt the conviction to reach out to someone? Or maybe just felt the need, to give them a kind smile? Never ignore these opportunities to share God's love to people. We are guilty of neglecting these moments because we get too comfortable in our own Jesus bubble, because we forget that shining God's light is our job as the body of Christ.

As the body of Christ, we are called to be one. In 1 Corinthians, Paul is writing to the church of Corinth, and instructing them on how to be a church. One passage in Chapter 12, starting in verse 12, is titled "One Body, Many Parts." Verse 12 says this: "The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts, and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is is with Christ."  The passage goes on to say, that no two people in the church are gifted in the same way, we are all different, but yet we are called to bring our uniqueness to the table and work together to achieve unity in Christ. It also makes very clear, that no one part of the body can work without the other. Verse 21 says: "The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!" On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable.." So, you see, every single one of us are important because we are all called to do one thing, and that is share God's love.

This song by Casting Crowns captures the essence of exactly what we as Christians tend to fall into. We get too comfortable in our own church family, that if someone new and different were to come in on Sunday morning, instead of welcoming them with open arms, we may shun them or wonder "What are they doing here?" There's a verse in the bridge of this song that says "Jesus paid much to high a price, for us to pick and choose who should come. We are the body of Christ."  Who are we to judge another person we know nothing about? A person who may be seeking what we have in our hearts, a person who maybe looking for encouragement and kindness. If we are the body.. why aren't we reaching out to them and teaching them God's word? Why aren't we loving them as God loves us? 

I'm sure you've all heard the saying "You may be the only Bible some people every read." There is so much truth in this statement. Why is it so hard for us to step down from our pedestals and reach out to people? With something as simple as a smile, or a small conversation starter such as: "Hi, how are you?" Something that small could change someone's life forever.

The next time you hear that still small voice telling you to go out of your way to show God's loving kindness, I encourage you to follow through. Don't hesitate. If we are the body, if we are to be his hands and feet, opportunities such as these, no matter how minuscule they may seem, are precious. Take advantage of them, and you will find yourself being touched as well.

Dear Lord,

Thank for this day and all you have given us. God, I pray that you will help us to follow through with the duties of being the body of Christ. Let us shine your light in the darkness of this world. Let us show it through our words and through our smiles. So that maybe, just maybe someone who does not know you will see that small spark that sets us apart from the rest of the world, and that maybe that curiosity would be enough for them to seek you. God, help us be your hands and feet. Help us to NEVER forget the price you paid on Calvary. We are forever in debt to you, yet you forgive us daily. The least we can do is show that same grace and mercy to other people.

It's in Your Name We Pray,

Be Still and Know That He is God.

Do you ever just feel like you need to get away from everything? Have ever felt the need to just be alone, and be still? Sometimes, we have to do this for ourselves. 

Tonight I had this urge. And usually when this happens, I know that I just need some "me and God time." I go up to the track, turn on my Pandora Praise and Worship station, and walk. Most of the time, I walk and listen until I feel satisfied. There's some stuff going on in my life right now, that's hard for me, not unbearable or horrible, but still difficult. I just needed some time to pray and spend time in the presence of God.

So far, the songs that were playing weren't specifically speaking to me in any way. Then, a version of the hymn "I Surrender All," by Brian Littrell (the song linked at the top of the page)  started to play. I love that hymn. It's a song of sweet surrender; a reminder of how much better life is when you give it over to God. It was so comforting to me. There's a verse in this particular version that says: 

"Lord, I give to You all I ever have
And everything I was and everything I am
Now I lay it down, I lay it at Your feet
To Your grace, to Your power I surrender all"

All that I was, all that I am, all that I will be, is God's. We just have to be willing to surrender to His all sufficient grace and power. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 says: "But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ's power may rest in me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." 

It is okay to be weak. For when we are weak, He is strong. When we are down, He lifts us up. When we are dry, He fills our cup. 

We need to be still; Bask in His glory and mercy; Get away from the way of this world. Even if it's just for a little while, you will see a difference. I know I do. 

Psalm 46:10 says: "Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." 

BE STILL. And know that He is GOD. NO problem is too small, to lay at Jesus's feet. Say: "All to you Jesus I surrender, all to you I freely give." This is to say that every area of my life, I hand over to Him. Have I completely done this? No, it is not something that can happen over night. It is a daily dedication. 

Are you willing to try it?

Are you willing to surrender all?

I encourage you to do so, and please know that you are not alone . I am trying to do the exact same thing, as are hundreds of thousands of Christians around the world. Remember, everyday you work on this, is a step closer to where you want to be in your relationship with Christ. Be patient and work hard. And know that the Lord, is always willing to listen. He delights in your effort of trying to please Him and spend time with him.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for another day. Thank you for being the one and only God. A God, who cares about every aspect of our lives, and every desire of our hearts. Thank you for being a jealous God, who wants to spend time with us. Help us to surrender all. Everything we have, everything are... past, present, and future. We love you Lord.

In Jesus's Name,

Through the Joy and Through the Sorrow; God is Always There.

If you are a performer in any aspect of things, you might have experienced technical difficulties a time or two. There's two ways you can handle them. First, you could let it affect your entire performance, or you could work through the situation to the best of your ability

This analogy could be applied to our lives. Sometimes, when we hit a rough patch we just want to give up and let one little circumstance take over our life. That's not how God wants us to live. I know just like anything else, this is easier said than done, but trust me on this one. When we surrender not only our trials and tribulations to God, but our joys and happiness, we will experience true fulfillment in Christ. 


James Chapter 1, verse 2-3 says this: "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance." Okay, so I know what you're thinking, "Um, Sydney. How in the world are we supposed to be joyful when the things happening in our lives are not joyful things?"

 I struggle with this question myself. I have been blessed in my life to have much more happiness than sorrow. This is not to say that I haven't experienced loss or heartbreak, or just those everyday things that make life tough. However, especially in this last year, I have grown to partially understand why we must be joyful of our trials. As humans, more times than not, we have to learn things the hard way. The hard way, often results in heartache. Heartache, that hurts and scars. Sometimes those wounds cut deep, and the only way we are to be healed is by the Lord. My point is, when we begin to heal, we look back on the situation and think: "I have learned my lesson." It is not that we have to be happy when we are staring into the face of a hurtful circumstance, but that we are able to look back and appreciate that God pulled us through, and maybe even take a thing or two away from it. After all, as I discussed in an earlier post, there is a time and season for everything.

In my opinion, loss and illness are harder to cope with in the mindset of, "This has happened for a reason, and I'll look back on this and notice something that I do not right now." When we go through these things, that are beyond our understanding, we are usually angry. Often times our favorite question is "Why?"
"Why this.. Why now... Why God why?" I don't have the answer. BUT. Philippians 4:13 states, "And the peace of God,which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." All I know, is that our current sufferings, can not hold a candle to the glory of God. In Romans 8:18 it says: "I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us."

So. Whatever you're going through, no matter if it's just the "technical difficulties" or your world seems to be crashing down. Remember, that we all have a choice on how to handle the things life throws at us, and no matter how hard it is, God will get you through it. You may think it seems like He's not present right now, but He is. "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will NEVER leave you or forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." --Deuteronomy 31:8--

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for this day. I thank you for every day and everything single breath, even though some days it seems we won't be able to get through. God, I pray that you help us to persevere through the trials of this life. Help us to find joy and hope in sorrow, and healing and comfort in pain. Lord, thank you for never leaving our side, and for your promise to never forsake us. Thank you for holding our hearts in the palm of your hand, and never letting go of us through the calm or through the storm..

In Your Son's Holy Name,
